Kia ora koutou!!

(This week we, the students of room 13 went and worked together with the students of room 5).

I mahi ā rōpū mātou kia ōhio manomano me pēhea te hanga mea hei whakatau i ngā raru o te tuawhenua o Aranui.
(We worked in groups to brainstorm how we could make things to solve the problems at the overland flowpath at Aranui Road).

(Here are some photos of us working in our groups to brainstorm what we need and how we can make it).

Ko ngā whakaahua e whai ake nei ko mātou whakaaro i te ōhio manomano.
(The following photos show what we came up with in our brainstorms).

Ka mutu taua mahi i noho mātou hei whakapuaki a mātou mahi.
(Once we'd finished our brainstormed we came together to present our brainstorms).

Ānei ngā whakaahua o mātou e whakapuaki ana i a mātou mahi.
(Here are the photos of us presenting our brainstorms, in our groups).

Australian Football (Week 6)

Kia ora!!

(We were excited this week to have the coaches from Kiwi Sport come and teach us some Australian Football skills. The students from rooms 3 & 13 worked together).

(Have a look at our pictures to see what we learnt!)

(We are listening to the instructions from the coaches).

Ko mātou ngā kaipā i te kēmu tuatahi. Kei te ngaro tētahi atu. Ko te ingoa o te kēmu nei ko Flush. (We are the taggers in our first game called Flush. One of the other taggers had already run off.)

Kei te oma haere mātou kia kaua e pā mai tētahi o ngā kaipā. (We're running around trying to stay away from the taggers).

(Tarani is squatting because she's been tagged by one of the taggers. She has to wait for someone to come and free her by 'flushing' her, using her hand as the lever). Kāore e roa Tarani!!

Ana! Kua wātea a Tarani naianei!! (Someone has just 'flushed' Tarani and she's free to go!)

Katahi ka mutu te kēmu, ka tatari mo ngā tohutohu. (The game finished and we waited for the next instruction).

Kei te āta whakarongo mātou ki ngā tohutohu kia mōhio me aha. (We're listening very carefully to the instructions so we know what to do).

Ko te pūkenga i akongia e mātou ko te 'drop punt.' I te mahi takirua mātou hei parakitihi taua pūkenga. (We learnt how to 'drop punt.' We worked in pairs and practised the skill we were taught.)

Ānei ētahi whakaahua o mātou e parakitihi ana. (Here are some photos of us practising the 'drop punt.')

(At the end of the lesson we got to practise the 'drop punt' and our goal was to hit one of the coaches with the ball).

I te tino pai rawa atu te ata nei. He pai hoki te ako i te pūkenga hou. Ā tērā wiki ka ako he pūkenga hou. Mauri ora ki a koutou!!

Whakawhiti Haumaru te Rori-Crossing the Road Safely (Wk5)

(This week we made a book that tells people how to cross the road safely).

Tītiro mai ki ngā whakaahua o mātou pukapuka, ā, pānuitia hoki! Me mahi pēnei ina ka whakawhiti rori koe.
(Have a look at the photos of our book & have a read as well! Make sure you follow these steps in order to cross the road safely!).

Tiani-"Ko tēnei te uwhi o te pukapuka."

Add caption

Piata-"Ko tēnei te whārangi tuatahi." Summa-"Do you know how to cross the road safely?"

Tarani-"You have to hold an adult's hand." Evanza-"Don't run across the road."

Sydnei-"This is the ara hīkoi. Make sure you use it when you're crossing the road." Isaac-"Crossing the road on a hill is not safe because you can't see if the car is coming."

Mana-"Ko tēnei ngā raiti whakatohu. Make sure you stop and look both ways." Maraina-"Listen out for cars when crossing the road."

Mihi-"This is the bridge. You can use it to cross the road safely." Kingston-"You have to be careful around cars."

Tiani-"Make sure you cross the road safely." Evanza-"Be careful when crossing the road."

E whā ngā mea hei tuhia ki tō rae ina ka whakawhiti koe i te rori.
Ko te mea tuatahi me TŪ ki te taha o te rori.
Tuarua me TITIRO i ngā taha e rua.
Tuatoru me WHAKARONGO mo ngā motoka.
Te mea mutunga me  WHAKAARO mo tōu ake haumarutanga.

There are four things you need to remember to do when crossing the road.
First you have to STOP!
Second you need to LOOK both ways.
Then you need to LISTEN out for cars.
And finally you need to THINK about your own safety...is it safe to cross?

We enjoyed learnig about how to cross the road safely and we are making sure that we follow these simple steps.

Keep safe everybody!!

Tuhinga Taki-Haro (Wk4)

Kia ora mai tātou!!

So this week we wrote a tuhinga taki (recount) about our visit to see Harold the giraffe in the Life Eduaction caravan.

Here are some photos of the students in their groups holding up their drafts and published copies:

Here is the pīpī teina group with their draft & published copies of their Harold stories

Here are some of the teina group with their stories about going to see Harold.

Mana & Piata from the tuakana group showing off their mahi

The following photos show Evanza's planning for her story, then her draft story and finally her published story.

This is the planning sheet that we the teina and tuakana writing groups use to plan our stories before we start writing them.

Once our planning has been checked off by the kaiako we go off and start writing our stories. We have to check for pū matua, ira kati, piko & all the other things that should be in our writing.

Then we publish our story on the rorohiko. We draw a picture on our publishing and then we're finished!!

We hope you enjoyed looking at our writing this week!! We will see you next week!!
